JJ Abrams Returns To Direct Star Wars: Episode IX
The man credited with relaunching Star Wars - JJ Abrams - is returning to the director's chair for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, announces Disney.
Abrams will also be a co-writer for the ninth official episode in the Star Wars adventure. He replaces Colin Trevorrow as director for the episode after he dropped out following 'creative differences' with Lucasfilm.
"With The Force Awakens, JJ delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said. "I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy."
Star Wars: Episode IX is currently scheduled for release in May 2019 starring Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Rian Johnson is the current director of episode XIII - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - which releases in cinema this December.
