Indiana Jones is swinging back into theatres!

Disney have confirmed that Harrison Ford and StevenSpielberg will reunite in the untitled fifth instalment of the action andadventure franchise which will be released July 19, 2019.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic
history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Disney chairman Alan Horn. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of
director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark
on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Franchise veterans Kathleen Marshall — who now is presidentof Lucasfilm — and Frank Marshall will produce. Disney, which owns Lucasfilm,
home of the Indiana Jones franchise, is taking over duties from Paramount,
which released the previous four films.

Speculation about a potential fifth instalment has beengrowing ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 – the company have
insisted that plans were in place but the company’s attention was on bringing
back Star Wars first; with the incredibly successful The Force Awakens. Now it
looks as though their attention is full focused on bringing fortune and glory
to the Indy franchise.

In terms of its release date, it’s the only movie occupying
that spot and it’s likely to stay that way. The Marvel adventure, The Inhumans
is currently scheduled for the weekend before (July 12th) but it
seems more than likely that the film will move away from Dr Jones – it makes
sense as both are made by Disney.

What of the film itself? Well the press release from Disney
makes no mention of George Lucas himself, so it’s unlikely that he’ll be
involved in anything other than a limited creative capacity – and it’s probably
best that a different creative team have a crack of the whip. No writers have
been confirmed yet; nor any initial story ideas.

There’s no escaping the fact that Harrison Ford will be 77
years-old come the release of Indiana Jones V, so could we see another attempt
to hand over the franchise to a younger actor or perhaps a trip back into
Indiana Jones’ past.

Producer Frank Marshall has spoken before about not taking
the ‘James Bond’ route and casting another actor in the role. So it seems more
likely that another character will take on the heavy duty action.

One name that almost certainly won’t return is Indiana Jones
and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull‘s Shia LaBeouf, who is unlikely to return
as Mutt Williams.

Indiana Jones 5 has officially been set for July 19, 2019.
