The Promised Land

In 1755, the humble soldier Ludvig Kahlen sets foot on the desolate Jutland heath, driven by a singular ambition: to heed the king's call to cultivate the land and, in doing so, secure his own fortune and honor. However, Kahlen soon finds himself at odds with a formidable adversary. The ruthless landowner Frederik De Schinkel, who considers himself the undisputed ruler of the region, refuses to acknowledge the king's authority over the heath. The conflict escalates when De Schinkel's serf, accompanied by his wife Ann Barbara, flees to Kahlen for sanctuary. In response, De Schinkel embarks on a vendetta to expel Kahlen and inflict harsh retribution. Undeterred by the threat, Kahlen valiantly stands his ground in this unequal struggle, risking not only his life but also the delicate ties he has formed with the small, close-knit family that has come together on the heath.
