Like its amiable, irresistible ménage, Fighting With My Family softens its rougher edges with humor. It’s often broadly funny but never mean or patronizing; it takes the Knights, their eccentricities and quixotic aspirations seriously, but not enough to squelch the fun.

Dwayne Johnson-produced Fighting With My Family is a goofy WWE comedy with heart

At the center of it all, however, is Pugh and you simply cannot praise her enough. It’s hard to imagine that the same actress who broke through in 2016’s period drama “Lady Macbeth” is throwing herself around a wrestling ring with the minimal use of stunt stand-ins. And if she can’t make you care about a wrestler fighting for her dream we can’t imagine who would.

Can you smeeelll what the Stephen Merchant is cooking? Yes, while “Fighting with My Family” boasts a guru-presence cameo by Dwayne Johnson, a whole lot of funny talent performing athletic slapstick, and even some laugh-out-loud shade at Vin Diesel, the key to WWE Studios’ best film yet is the co-creator behind shows like "Hello Ladies" and “The Office.”

As proven since her break-out role in Lady MacBeth, Pugh is a force to be reckoned with, giving a believe drive and passion to her character’s arc.

In other words, nothing much held me back from enjoying writer-director Stephen Merchant’s engaging, charismatically acted underdog fable.
