Clear a Path to the Riotous Loss-of-Virginity Comedy “Blockers”
2559d ago
Blockers is one of the funniest (and filthiest) comedies of 2018
2559d ago
Blockers, of course, contains all the usual raunch including butt-chugging and drug humor, along with first-rate physical comedy by Cena, Barinholtz, and Mann as they debate parenting styles and motivations.

Think “Porky’s” but less crude and with the parents’ own double-edged coming-of-age story
2559d ago
John Cena and Geraldine Viswanathan steal the show in this blunt and bawdy comedy about growing up and letting go.
2559d ago
“Blockers” is the kind of movie that Hollywood typically gets wrong.

A prom-night comedy about three girls out to lose their virginity — and the parents who are desperate to stop them — proves, more than ever, that feminine raunch has become the hilarious new normal.
2559d ago
It’s prom night! Julie (Kathryn Newton), Kayla (Geraldine Viswanathan) and Sam (Gideon Adlon) have been friends for years. They do everything together, and they’ve decided that this, their last night of school, will be the night they all lose their virginity. Unfortunately, their parents find out and do everything they can to keep their girls just that – their girls.

Parents played by Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz set out to ruin prom night for their daughters in Kay Cannon's directing debut.
2559d ago
Three parents try to stop their teens' sexed-up prom-night plan – and turn a typical gross-out comedy into something special

In the Raunchy Blockers, It's the Adults Who Need to Grow Up
2559d ago
Blockers sells itself as a parents-first warpath comedy, but the true treat here is watching a trio of young women navigate sex-comedy narratives that boys have dominated for far too long.
2559d ago
If there's one error, it's that there are almost too many laughs. Cannon keeps the pace up, and some of the smart one-liners from the script by Brian and Jim Kehoe get stamped on in the race for the next gag. Still, a laugh lost because the audience is still howling from the last slapstick is no major sin.
2559d ago
“Blockers” is about six movies in one, and only about four of them work.
2559d ago
It features a casually diverse cast and is openly, at times dutifully, feminist, with you-go-girl speeches that sound as if everyone involved had tried too hard to be decent. Funny and enlightened would have been better.
2559d ago
Kay Cannon’s film parodies helicopter parents to often hilarious results – but the film tries too hard to make its point
2559d ago
Director Kay Cannon approaches the randiness of her female characters with unvarnished frankness.
2559d ago
“Blockers” is the latest example of the millennium’s most dispiriting film trend: Stupid drunk people making stupid drunk decisions for two stupid hours.
